Detroit Testing Laboratory, Inc. Sells Certification
Testing Activity

April 5, 2010

Detroit Testing Laboratory, Inc., a leading automotive and industrial testing and development laboratory, announces that on April 2, 2010, all resources associated with the company’s Certification test activities were sold and transferred to TÜV SÜD America, Inc. in Plymouth, MI. This includes Detroit Testing Laboratory’s certification of playground equipment and surfacing for the International Play Equipment Manufacturers Association (IPEMA), bunk beds, safety eyewear, sports equipment and juvenile products.

The sale and transfer of the Certification test activity was facilitated as part of a strategic business decision for Detroit Testing Laboratory to sharpen its focus on its rapidly expanding automotive product and component testing divisions, which includes non-metals materials testing, vehicle and electrical/mechanical component testing, lithium-ion battery safety and reliability testing, and fuel system testing, and its further expansion in military and aerospace testing in Warren, MI and Melbourne, FL..

President & CEO, Earl L. Smith stated, “the Certification department at DTL has provided safety testing and certification of playground structures and surfacing, juvenile products, and sports equipment for several decades. As DTL has focused our full attention and resources on expanding our services in the testing of automotive products and components, most especially lithium-ion batteries, and begun to expand our geographic reach to better serve our military and aerospace customers throughout the United States, we concluded that there would be a better strategic fit for our Certification business with a company that is more focused and has a broader capability in that area of testing. We see this as a gain for all parties involved including the four employees who will transfer to TÜV SÜD America, Inc.”

Detroit Testing Laboratory, Inc.’s plan to reinvest the money from the sale into new testing technology will further enhance our position as one of the leading automotive, military and aerospace testing labs in the United States.
